Tuesday August 19th 2025 at 19:30-22:00 - Members Outside Meeting - Butterfly House, Victoria Park, Widnes
This meeting will be held at The Butterfly House, Victoria Park, Appleton Village, Widnes, for a club photoshoot.
We have made a private booking for 7 - 9pm, and it's only open for our photoshoot. The cost will be £25 split between us, so please bring some cash with you. It will probably work out between £2 - £3 each.
There is no parking inside the park, so we suggest you park in St Bede's Church car park (which is a short distance away) postcode:- WA8 6EL
It is quite hot & humid inside the butterfly house, so please dress to suit the conditions. We will probably go in in small groups for 15 minutes at a time. This will help you to get a better shot, but it will also help you withstand the heat and humidity for you and your camera. You will have several chances of 15-minute slots during our 2-hour photoshoot. There are approximately 12 members who said they will be attending.
We suggest bringing a 70 - 200 and a macro lens, but if you haven't got these, a 24 - 70 will work. It's best to use a large aperture to diffuse the background. Help and advice can be given to anyone who needs it on the night. Try to capture the butterflies on the lower leaves as the light from the ceiling will be too distracting if you try to capture the butterflies on the higher branches. Bear in mind its quite difficult to try and capture the butterflies in flight but you will need a fast speed if you do, although the butterflies should be quite dormant at this time of night.
We are looking forward to what promises to be a great night and a learning curve for us all. Good luck!
