RULES FOR EXHIBITION & COMPETITIONS (Rev 2011-12a)


1. SELECTION .

The Exhibition Secretary will be responsible for accepting entries for Exhibitions and Competitions (other than the Monthly Competitions) and ensuring that they are in accordance with the laid down rules .

The Committee will be responsible for  the selection of entries on behalf of the Society for use in competitions outside the Society.

The reception of entries for the Monthly Competitions will be in the hands of the Monthly Competition Secretary.

All entries must be in the hands of the Secretary by no later than the published date.

2. CLASSES FOR THE SOCIETY'S EXHIBITION AND COMPETITIONS (Prints Entry Form - Digital Entry Form)

(a) ANNUAL EXHIBITION:

B Nature & Record Monochrome & Colour Prints
C AAdvanced Open Colour Prints

3. CLASSIFICATION OF NEW MEMBERS & ADVANCEMENT FROM CLASS TO CLASS.

New members will first enter  prints in  Class D - General Monochrome and Colour Prints of the Annual Exhibition unless they have won an award in another Society of equal standing to the Warrington Photographic Society.  If they have won such an award, they will enter in the advanced print  classes. 

Advancement to the advanced print sections will be awarded to the  general print worker obtaining the highest total obtained by adding the score achieved in the Annual Exhibition ( as detailed in  Section 6 A  para. viii ) with the average of the 3 no highest scores obtained in the print section of the monthly competitions in the preceding season.

Class B-  Nature and Record Monochrome and Colour Prints and Classes E, F and G  are open to all members irrespective of classification.

The Monthly Competition Sections H and I are open to all members irrespective of classification

4. AWARDS.

Each Section in the Annual Exhibition has its own Trophy, and commendations are also awarded at the judge's discretion.  The W.P.S. Challenge Cup is awarded to the exhibitor gaining the highest total points (see General Rules).  A trophy will be awarded to the worker winning the W.P.S. Challenge Cup of the first time only.  Trophys will also be awarded to the first time winners of the General Monochrome and Colour Print Section.  Winners of all other Trophies in the Annual Exhibition will be awarded Certificates.  Certificates will also be awarded for Commendations.

Trophies will be awarded to the overall winners of the sections of the Monthly Competitions.

All trophies remain the property of WPS .

5. GENERAL RULES.

(A) ANNUAL EXHIBITION.

(i), Prints may be any size, mounted on any colour mounts, maximum size of mount shall be 50cm by 40cm  and the minimum length of any side to be 38cm . The backing board should be a similar size to the front mount.  The maximum mount thickness shall not exceed 4 mm. 
 
Each print must display on the back of the prints, in the top LEFT hand corner  your name, print title and the class you wish to enter.

(ii) Images entered must be entirely the work of the photographer, with the exception of the processing of prints.  Composite images are permitted provided all components meet this requirement
 
(iii) Each image must be entered in only one class, an image or “significantly similar” must not have been used in any previous Annual Exhibition of the Society.

(iv) Digital Images must be prepared in accordance with the separate digital images rules. See WPS web site.

(v) Entry fees,
Prints are £4.50 for up to 15 prints + 30p per subsequent print.
Digital images are £4.50 for up to 15 images. With a maximum of 5 images in each class.
The entry fee must be paid with the entry form.

(vi) Unless a worker indicates otherwise, it is understood that all entries may be used by W.P.S. for any external competitions or events which the Society enters.

In LCPU competitions a worker can only represent one club.  If a worker has entered or wishes to enter an LCPU competition from another club, he must declare this to the Exhibition Secretary.

(vii) The Committee reserve the right to reject any entry not considered to be of a suitable standard.,  any entry that does not comply with rules will be automatically rejected.

Any entry that does not comply with rules will be automatically rejected.

If the total number off print  entries exceeds the hanging space available, the Committee will select  prints for hanging to represent  the overall exhibition entry.  All entries will be submitted to the Exhibition Judge. 

 (viii) The W.P.S. Challenge Cup is awarded to the exhibitor who gains the highest aggregate mark from commendations made at the Annual Exhibition on the basis of Trophy = 4. VHC = 3. HC = 2. C = 1. Over the following sections:-

A Advanced Monochrome Prints

C Advanced Colour Prints

B Nature and Record Prints

D General monochrome and general prints

E Digital Projected Images

F Digital Projected Nature and Record Images

G Digital Projected Monochrome images

In the event of a tie, the award shall go to the worker gaining the highest total marks for both prints and slides in the Monthly Competitions.

(B) MONTHLY COMPETITIONS

(i) The rules of the competitions will be in accordance with Rules (I), (ii) and (iii) of the Annual Exhibition, except that the members are limited to an entry of three digital images and four prints in each competition. 


(ii) Each print must bear  your name and Title  in the top left hand corner on the back. 


(iii) No entry fee is required in the case of Monthly Competitions. 


(iv) Entries not complying with the rules will automatically be rejected.
